A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck China’s northwestern Xinjiang region on Thursday near the border with Kyrgyzstan, the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) announced.
The tremor occurred in Akqi county at 3:44 p.m. local time (0744 GMT), with its epicentre at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
According to state media reports, local authorities had not received any reports of casualties or collapsed buildings an hour after the event. Essential services, including transportation, power, and telecommunications in the county, were said to be operating normally.
