The free-to-play action RPG Duet Night Abyss has launched worldwide on PC, mobile devices, and the Epic Games Store, distinguishing itself with a player-friendly model that eliminates character and weapon gacha systems and removes stamina limitations on movement and missions.
Set in the world of Atlasia, the story revolves around tree-like crystals called Heaventrees, once seen as divine gifts that inspired the dominant Elysian Church. Over time, dissenting groups broke away, forming their own factions. The narrative unfolds through a dual perspective, allowing players to switch between two protagonists from different backgrounds across various chapters.
A core feature is its deterministic acquisition system. Instead of relying on luck-based gacha banners, players unlock new characters by collecting or purchasing a specific number of character shards. All characters are designed to be equally viable, with no tier or star-rating systems. To further improve accessibility for free-to-play users, launch events allow players to unlock seven characters for free, enabling immediate team-building.
Combat is a fast-paced, hack-and-slash experience where players face hordes of enemies. The flow of battle is enhanced by a high-mobility system unrestricted by stamina meters, featuring options like sprinting, grappling, dodging, and a long-distance Helix Leap. This freedom extends to the weapon system, where any character can equip any combination of melee and ranged weapons and swap between them instantly. The arsenal includes swords, polearms, greatswords, and whipswords, alongside ranged options like dual pistols, shotguns, and grenade launchers.
Players can tackle missions, known as commissions, either solo with AI companions or in co-op groups of up to three. Further customization is available through “Demon Wedges,” versatile add-ons that provide guaranteed, non-randomized stat boosts to attributes like health, critical rate, and attack speed. These wedges can also alter the mechanics of character attacks and skills and can be used across multiple characters and weapons without needing to be reacquired.
The game’s monetization model is focused entirely on cosmetics, including character skins, accessories, patterns, dyes, and weapon skins. To celebrate the launch, new skins for Psyche, Rebecca, and the duo Truffle and Filbert have been revealed, along with Christmas-themed outfits and a new sword skin. New players can also receive up to 107 Pristine and Prismatic Hourglasses through login rewards, which can be used to acquire new cosmetic items.
Duet Night Abyss is now available for download on PC, iOS, and Android.
