Following a successful debut weekend, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t has claimed the top spot at the box office. The film earned $25 million domestically and $36.7 million internationally, bringing its global total to $61.7 million. With its opening domestic haul alone, the sequel has already surpassed the entire U.S. theatrical run of the 2011 spy thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, which grossed $24.1 million.
The film is now poised to overtake several other notable titles in the coming days. It is expected to soon surpass the domestic earnings of both Dev Patel’s action-thriller Monkey Man and Alex Garland’s acclaimed sci-fi film Ex Machina, with both films currently less than $500,000 ahead of its total.
The ensemble cast for the new installment features returning stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher, alongside newcomers Ariana Greenblatt and Dominic Sessa, a breakout from The Holdovers.
Ruben Fleischer directs this third entry in the heist franchise, from a script by a team that includes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, known for their work on Deadpool, as well as Michael Leslie, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Eric Warren Singer. The original Now You See Me was directed by Louis Leterrier, while Jon M. Chu helmed the sequel, Now You See Me 2.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is currently available exclusively in theaters. Given its number one opening, a video-on-demand release is not expected for several weeks as the film continues its theatrical run. For those looking to catch up on the series, the first two films are available for streaming on Starz and Peacock.
