While rookie Jahmyr Gibbs continues to dominate, veteran running back David Montgomery has seen his role in the offense diminish significantly, playing fewer than 40% of snaps in three of his last four games. Despite head coach Dan Campbell’s stated desire to increase his involvement, Montgomery has received only 11 carries over the past two weeks combined.
This reduced workload has directly impacted his fantasy production. Since Week 6, he is averaging just 7.8 points per game and has been held to single-digit scoring in four of six contests. His prospects are further challenged by a difficult matchup with the Green Bay Packers, who limited him to 43 yards and 8.3 fantasy points in Week 1. This season, the Packers’ defense has been formidable against the run, surrendering just six touchdowns to running backs and allowing explosive plays at the fourth-lowest rate in the league. Given his declining usage and a tough opponent, Montgomery represents a high-risk play for fantasy managers with the playoffs at stake.
