Tears and Uncertainty at CBS as ‘Saturday Morning’ Co-Hosts Depart

Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller delivered an emotional farewell on “CBS Saturday Morning,” concluding their seven-year tenure as co-hosts. The departure, which the anchors confirmed was not their decision, comes amid a significant shake-up at CBS News and leaves the future of the program uncertain.

During their final broadcast, Miller reached for Jacobson’s hand, stating, “After seven long years of welcoming you to the weekend, our time here is coming to a close.” Jacobson added clarity, telling viewers, “While it wasn’t our choice to leave, we did have one in how we get to say goodbye.” She expressed gratitude to the extensive production team, emphasizing, “Without them, there is no us.”

Both anchors reflected on their time with the show. Jacobson, a former ESPN anchor, became emotional as she described the opportunity to “travel the globe and be a storyteller again.” She thanked viewers for their frequent encouragement, saying, “Thank you for making me feel like what we do, matters.”

Miller, who joined CBS after arriving in New York with “no job, no prospects,” highlighted the show’s journalistic integrity. “‘SatMo’ gave us the opportunity to amplify stories that matter, from all vantage points,” she said, framing her exit as a professional evolution rather than an ending.

The anchors’ departure is a direct result of a wider restructuring within CBS News, initiated by newly appointed editor-in-chief Bari Weiss and network president Tom Cibrowski. Jacobson, Miller, and executive producer Brian Applegate were reportedly ousted in an initial round of changes that left many staff members blindsided.

While “CBS Saturday Morning” will continue to air, the network has not announced permanent replacements or a new format, fueling anxiety within the news division. One CBS insider described the lack of communication as “par for the course,” adding, “This is a network that has no plans.” Another source countered that a plan is in place but will be revealed at a later date.

In the interim, the broadcast will likely feature a rotating cast of fill-ins. Correspondent Adriana Diaz is scheduled to host on November 29, though sources suggest she is not interested in the permanent role. Other names circulating internally for the position include Elaine Quijano, Errol Barnett, Kelly O’Grady, and Jericka Duncan, but no final decision has been made.
