Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford made NFL history Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, setting a new record for the most consecutive touchdown passes without an interception.
During the Rams’ opening drive, Stafford connected on a four-yard touchdown pass, marking his 28th straight touchdown throw without an interception and surpassing the previous record held by Tom Brady. The scoring play capped off an efficient six-play, 35-yard drive.
However, Stafford’s remarkable streak came to an abrupt end on the team’s very next possession when his pass was intercepted in the end zone by Panthers defensive back Nick Scott. The quarterback’s troubles continued on the subsequent drive, as he threw another interception that was returned for a touchdown by Mike Jackson Sr.
Entering the game, Stafford was a leading MVP candidate, topping the NFL with 30 touchdown passes against just two interceptions. His performance had placed him alongside Patrick Mahomes as one of only two players in league history to enter Week 13 with at least 30 touchdowns and two or fewer interceptions.
The interceptions also prevented Stafford from reaching other potential milestones, including becoming just the third player to record nine consecutive games with at least 25 pass attempts and no interceptions. The 9-2 Rams were seeking their 10th win to solidify their dominant position in the NFC.
