While that achievement would be a highlight in a career seemingly destined for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a more historic milestone is now in view: Bruce Smith’s all-time career record of 200 sacks. With 120.5 sacks already to his name and not turning 30 until late December, Garrett is well-positioned to challenge the record. His consistency, marked by eight consecutive seasons with double-digit sacks, makes this a realistic long-term goal.
The former first overall pick has long been compared to Hall of Famer Julius Peppers, and he continues to exemplify the ideal pass rusher sought by coaches and scouts. The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year combines a chiseled 6-foot-4, 272-pound frame and rare athleticism with a sophisticated skill set. He dominates opponents with a flair reminiscent of Peppers, utilizing basketball-like maneuvers such as his signature “crossover” to beat blockers. Garrett also expertly converts speed to power, deploying a versatile arsenal of bull rushes, dip-and-rip moves, and swipes to disrupt the pocket from multiple alignments.
