Yankees Dominate Mariners in 10-3 Victory

NEW YORK — Giancarlo Stanton launched a three-run homer and Austin Wells connected for his third consecutive game, powering the New York Yankees to a 10-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.

In the opener of a three-game series between American League playoff contenders, the Yankees snapped a six-game slide with their second straight win. Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt each contributed three hits to the offensive outburst.

Rookie right-hander Will Warren (6-4) delivered a strong performance, pitching 5 2/3 shutout innings to rebound from a difficult previous outing.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, following a 35-minute rain delay. With two outs, Oswald Peraza’s run-scoring infield single off Mariners starter Logan Gilbert (2-3) ended Seattle’s franchise-record scoreless streak at 33 innings.

The Yankees broke the game open in the sixth. Aaron Judge and Bellinger led off with back-to-back singles before Stanton crushed a pitch for his 431st career homer, making it 4-0. Three batters later, Wells greeted reliever Casey Legumina with a two-run shot to right field, his career-high 14th of the season.

New York extended its lead in a four-run seventh inning, highlighted by Judge’s solo homer, an RBI double from Jazz Chisholm Jr., and a two-run single by Goldschmidt.

Cal Raleigh hit a two-run homer for Seattle in the eighth inning, his major league-leading 36th of the season. The home run also set a Mariners record for most before the All-Star break, surpassing Ken Griffey Jr.’s 1998 mark. Judge’s solo shot, his 34th, kept him two behind Raleigh in the home run race.

In Wednesday’s matchup, Mariners rookie Logan Evans (3-2, 2.96 ERA) will face right-hander Cam Schlittler, who is being called up by the Yankees to make his major league debut in place of the injured Clarke Schmidt. The 24-year-old Schlittler was 6-6 with a 2.82 ERA combined at Double-A and Triple-A this season.
