The impressive Wimbledon run of British doubles pair Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash has them on the cusp of a historic title at the All England Club. Their journey to the gentlemen’s doubles final has been defined by consistency and clutch performances.
The duo advanced through their first three matches without dropping a set, defeating Vasil Kirkov and Bart Stevens, Hendrik Jebens and Albano Olivetti, and Guido Andreozzi and Marcelo Demoliner. Their greatest challenge came in the quarter-finals against defending champions Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten, where Glasspool and Cash saved three match points to win a dramatic final-set tiebreak 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8).
In a commanding semi-final performance, they defeated French Open champions and fourth seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos without facing a single break point. Having conceded just one set throughout the tournament, they now face Rinky Hijikata and David Pel in an all-British bid for the championship.
Their opponents, who entered the main draw as alternates, caused a major upset by eliminating the world’s top-ranked team, Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic. Despite being the favourites on paper, Glasspool acknowledged the challenge ahead.
“This is probably the first match we are going in as favourites from rankings. They are a tricky pair,” he said. “They have never played together before so no-one has any rankings on them. They have just taken out the best team in the world this year. It’s going to be an extremely difficult match, but hopefully we will have the crowd with us.”
Glasspool and Cash are aiming to become the first all-British pair to win the Wimbledon men’s doubles title since Pat Hughes and Raymond Tuckey in 1936.
A key element of their campaign has been the unwavering encouragement from Glasspool’s fiancée, Sophia Maslin, who has been a vocal supporter from the stands. “She is very consistent throughout the match—she is very vocal. I really appreciate it. I think Julian really likes it as well. It lifts us as a team for sure,” Glasspool commented.
Maslin is a barrister-trained entrepreneur from London, known for her work in legal technology and the modelling industry. She is the founder and CEO of Morby, an online platform designed to simplify will-writing and estate planning. In 2016, while studying law, she also co-founded Revolt Model Agency. Maslin earned her Bachelor of Laws from BPP Law School and qualified as a barrister in 2021.
The couple is set to marry next year. “We get married the weekend before Queen’s next year,” Glasspool revealed. “Not sure of the date—should probably know that!”
