Montenegro’s national water polo team is set to begin its World Championship campaign in Singapore with a formidable opening match against Greece. Competing in what is considered the tournament’s most challenging pool, Group D, Montenegro will also face powerhouse Croatia and an ambitious Chinese team.
Left-hander Đuro Radović acknowledged the difficulty of the group but suggested it could be a strategic advantage. “It’s a tough group, probably the toughest in the championship,” Radović stated. “In my opinion, it might be better this way, as it will immediately acclimate us to high-stakes duels and strong competition, which could prepare us for the knockout phase.”
While Greece enters the match as the favorite, Radović expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete. “We have already played two or three games with the Greeks under the new rules,” he noted. “The results were unfavorable, but both teams were using incomplete rosters. This is a new story. We have analyzed them well, we are prepared, healthy, and ready to match them.”
Following the opener against Greece, Montenegro will face Croatia on Monday and conclude the group stage against China on Wednesday.
The Montenegro squad for the championship includes: Tešanović, Holod, Đuro Radović, Obradović, Macić, Vujović, Ćetković, Gardašević, Perković, Matković, Vasilije Radović, Andrić, Vučković, and Gojković.
