A suspect is dead and a Kentucky State Trooper is among several people injured after a shooting incident that unfolded in Lexington on Sunday morning and concluded at a local church.
According to the Kentucky State Police, the event began around 11:35 a.m. when an unidentified suspect shot a trooper and fled. The suspect then proceeded to the Richmond Road Baptist Church, where multiple people were injured.
State troopers and the Lexington Police Department responded and secured the scene. Authorities confirmed the suspect is deceased, although the circumstances of the death have not been disclosed. The injured trooper is currently receiving medical attention.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear addressed the shootings in a social media post, calling them “senseless acts of violence.” He added, “Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police.”
