Allegations that WWE is intentionally counter-programming rival promotion AEW are gaining traction, with reports indicating the strategy is a deliberate directive from within the company.
According to WrestleVotes, the decision to schedule major events concurrently with AEW’s has been mandated by WWE and approved by its parent company, TKO Group Holdings. A notable example of this approach is the upcoming NXT Heatwave event, which is scheduled for the weekend of August 24, the same weekend as AEW’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
This competitive strategy is seen as an aggressive tactic to dominate media coverage and online discourse, effectively limiting the competition’s exposure. While the practice has drawn criticism from some fans, it is not expected to generate enough negative impact to alter WWE’s approach.
