Report: Oakmont Bans Wyndham Clark After Damaging Locker

Oakmont Country Club has banned golfer Wyndham Clark from its property after he damaged a locker following a missed cut at last month’s U.S. Open.

In a letter sent to members, club president John Lynch confirmed the decision was reached after discussions with the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the club’s board.

Lynch outlined conditions under which the ban could be reconsidered, requiring Clark to pay for the damages, make a “meaningful contribution” to a charity selected by the Oakmont board, and undergo counseling or anger management therapy.

“A decision has been made that Mr. Clark will no longer be permitted on OCC property,” Lynch wrote. “This decision will remain in effect unless formally reconsidered and approved by the Board.”

Clark, who won the 2023 U.S. Open, missed the cut at this year’s tournament by a single stroke. He later addressed the incident at the Travelers Championship. “I made a mistake that I deeply regret,” Clark said. “I’m very sorry for what happened. But I’d also like to move on.”

This event follows a similar display of frustration at the PGA Championship in May, where Clark threw his driver and damaged a sign near a tee box. After that incident, he issued a statement calling his actions “uncalled for and completely inappropriate” and promised to better handle his frustrations.

Clark has since fallen to 28th in the Official World Golf Ranking, with one top-10 finish in 19 starts this season. Oakmont Country Club, located near Pittsburgh, is scheduled to host the U.S. Open again in 2033.
