The Ville, a team of former Louisville Cardinals alumni, continues its pursuit of The Basketball Tournament’s $1 million prize with a second-round matchup against a familiar adversary, Sideline Cancer, at Freedom Hall. The contest is a rematch of last year’s second round, where The Ville secured a narrow 71-69 victory.
The top-seeded The Ville advanced after a commanding 91-71 first-round win over No. 8 Boston vs. Cancer. The victory was largely fueled by a dominant performance from Montrezl Harrell, who scored 25 points, with 16 coming in the second half. Their opponent, No. 4 seed Sideline Cancer, advanced by defeating No. 5 Madd Katts 84-82.
Making its 12th TBT appearance, the Sideline Cancer roster features three Louisville natives: Chris Coffey, Trey Moses, and Tay Weaver.
The Ville’s lineup faced uncertainty due to the professional commitments of its key players. Harrell played a BIG3 league game in Detroit just hours before the TBT contest, chartering a private jet to arrive at Freedom Hall minutes before tipoff. However, teammate Earl Clark, who also plays in the BIG3 league, was unable to make it back from his game in Detroit in time to play. Malik Williams was slated to start in Harrell’s place if he had been delayed.
