Nearly three decades after the original film became a cult classic, Adam Sandler is reprising his role as the hot-tempered, hockey-player-turned-golfer in “Happy Gilmore 2.”
Netflix first announced the sequel in May 2024, confirming the return of one of Sandler’s most beloved characters. The 1996 comedy, “Happy Gilmore,” earned a dedicated following among both movie fans and the golf community for its story of an unconventional athlete with a powerful swing and a short fuse.
In the sequel, co-written by Sandler, Happy has left his professional golf career behind following a tragic accident. He is drawn back to the sport when he needs to raise $300,000 to send his daughter, Vienna (Sunny Sandler), to a prestigious ballet school in Paris. His return to the links reunites him with his old nemesis, Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), and forces him to defend the integrity of the sport against an energy drink mogul (Benny Safdie) attempting to launch a more extreme version of golf.
The original film followed Happy as he joined a professional golf tour to win enough money to save his grandmother’s house from foreclosure, clashing with the arrogant Shooter McGavin along the way.
“Happy Gilmore 2” is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Netflix on Friday, July 25, at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT.
The film will feature several returning cast members, including:
* Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore
* Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit
* Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin
* Ben Stiller as Hal
* John Daly as himself
New additions to the cast include Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny), Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Blake Clark, and Margaret Qualley.
The sequel also boasts an extensive list of celebrity cameos, including Travis Kelce, Eminem, Post Malone, Stephen A. Smith, Nelly Korda, Kevin Nealon, Eric André, Ken Jennings, Cam’ron, and Jack Nicklaus.
