Los Angeles Chargers star left tackle Rashawn Slater was carted off the practice field Thursday after sustaining an apparent injury to his left leg.
The incident occurred just one week after Slater signed a four-year extension that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.
During a modified 11-on-11 drill, Slater went down after another player appeared to fall into his left leg as he dropped into his pass-protection stance. Trainers attended to him for several minutes before the cart was brought onto the field.
Slater was unable to put any weight on his leg. As he was driven away, a visibly distraught Slater threw his helmet, slammed his hand on the cart, and buried his head in his hands. Teammates gathered to console him before he was helped inside the team’s facility.
