As the PlayStation 5 approaches its fifth anniversary, new details regarding its successor have emerged from the YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead. The report, which cites information allegedly from a 2023 AMD presentation to Sony, outlines potential specifications, pricing, and a release window for the PlayStation 6. The source cautions that these details are preliminary and may have changed since the original presentation.
According to the leak, Sony may prioritize cost-efficiency and lower power consumption for the PS6. The console is rumored to offer a significant performance leap, with three times the rasterization (3D rendering) capabilities of the original PS5 and double that of the PS5 Pro. The report also suggests the PS6 will maintain backwards compatibility with both PS4 and PS5 games. A potential price point of $499 is mentioned, a strategy that could echo the successful launch of the lower-priced PlayStation 4.
In addition to the main console, Sony is reportedly developing a complementary handheld device. Leaked specifications for this portable console include a touchscreen, haptic feedback, dual microphones, a microSD slot, and an M.2 SSD slot for expandable storage.
