Two Marquette University students killed in a September 5 car crash near campus have been identified as Scott Michaud, 19, and Noah Snyder, 20.
The university confirmed that both students were members of the men’s lacrosse team. The collision occurred at North 27th Street and West St. Paul Avenue when their vehicle, which was carrying six people, was struck by another car. Four other occupants in the students’ vehicle, including three fellow lacrosse players, sustained non-fatal injuries and were treated at a local hospital.
Milwaukee police have arrested the 41-year-old driver of the other vehicle. Charges are currently pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
In response to the tragedy, Marquette has canceled all home athletic events for the remainder of the weekend. The university will hold a community Mass on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Family, with support services available in the Alumni Memorial Union from noon to 3 p.m.
According to Milwaukee police data, at least 39 people have died in traffic incidents in the city this year, a decrease of approximately 25% compared to the same period last year.
