The Philadelphia metropolitan area is bracing for a weekend of severe weather, with heavy rain and storms forecast to continue throughout Saturday. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for much of the region until 8 p.m.
Fueled by high humidity, the storm system is expected to produce intense, potentially blinding downpours, frequent lightning, and strong, damaging winds. Forecasters anticipate the most severe conditions will develop around dinnertime on Saturday.
The storms are predicted to persist through Saturday night, with some showers lingering into Sunday morning. However, the system is expected to clear the area by Sunday afternoon, giving way to more pleasant conditions with temperatures in the 70s.
