Veteran alt-rock band AFI has announced their 12th studio album, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun…, scheduled for an October 3rd release. To mark the announcement, the band has unveiled the lead single, “Behind the Clock.”
The new track is a bass-driven, goth-tinged rocker featuring dense, atmospheric production and a powerful vocal performance from frontman Davey Havok. Its sound showcases influences reminiscent of The Cult and David Bowie.
The single is accompanied by a moody, reflective music video directed by Gilbert Trejo. According to Trejo, the video’s concept aims to mirror the intimate nature of Havok’s lyricism. “We wanted the video to feel like you’re seeing something you shouldn’t,” he stated in a press release. “He’s expressing himself so openly, that you’re let behind this curtain. It’s a world that most artists don’t cut to, marrow deep.”
Havok reciprocated the praise, stating, “Gilbert’s video has sublimated the essence of ‘Behind the Clock.’ His vision and expertise is inspiring. Working with him was a privilege and utter joy. He is an artist of the purest form.”
In support of the new album, AFI will embark on a U.S. headlining tour this fall. The tour kicks off on September 30th in Madison, Wisconsin, and concludes on November 5th in San Diego.
