Arsenal have entered into negotiations with Crystal Palace to sign Eberechi Eze, who is understood to be keen on the move following a significant knee injury to Gunners forward Kai Havertz.
The development positions Arsenal ahead of North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who had reportedly agreed to terms with both Palace and the player. Spurs are now preparing to pursue alternative targets should Eze finalize a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Crystal Palace had initially delayed any transfer, intending to keep the England international available for their Conference League play-off match on Thursday. However, Arsenal have now indicated their willingness to meet the club’s conditions, prompting formal discussions.
Arsenal’s renewed pursuit of Eze, a boyhood supporter who was part of the club’s academy, follows the injury to Havertz. While the full extent of the German international’s layoff is not yet known, the club is proactively exploring the market for attacking reinforcements. Palace reportedly value the 27-year-old at around £60 million.
Though not a like-for-like replacement for Havertz, Eze’s arrival would provide manager Mikel Arteta with greater tactical flexibility, potentially allowing other attackers like Leandro Trossard to be deployed in a central role.
The signing would also address Arsenal’s need to strengthen the left side of their attack, providing a creative spark to match the output from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard on the right flank. Highly versatile, Eze excels as an attacking midfielder but is also effective on the left wing or in a deeper midfield position. His ability to break down defenses with his dribbling, combined with his incisive passing, makes him a potent dual threat in the final third.
Eze finished last season in outstanding form, scoring nine goals in his final 13 appearances. He has been a pivotal player for Palace since joining from Queens Park Rangers in 2020 for approximately £17 million, recording 40 goals in 169 games. To date, he has been capped 12 times by England.
