Following a victory in the series opener in St. Louis, the Athletics will aim to secure the series win in the second game against the Cardinals tonight.
Veteran right-hander Luis Severino is set to take the mound for Oakland in his return from the injured list. After missing three starts, Severino will bypass a minor league rehab assignment and rejoin the starting rotation directly.
The Cardinals will counter with their own veteran righty, Miles Mikolas. Now in his 10th Major League season, Mikolas has been a durable starter for St. Louis but has struggled with run prevention this year, posting a 5.04 ERA across 26 starts.
In lineup news for the A’s, Nick Kurtz returns and will bat in the leadoff position. JJ Bleday is slated to start in right field.
