A key character from Blue Bloods will return for the upcoming spinoff Boston Blue, but the role has been recast with a new actor. The character of Sean Reagan, the youngest son of Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), will be portrayed by Mika Amonsen, who joins the show as a series regular.
Andrew Terraciano, who played Sean for all 14 seasons of the original CBS series, will not be reprising the role.
In the new series, Wahlberg’s character relocates from New York to Boston. The storyline will feature his son Sean, now an adult, working as a patrolman for the Boston Police Department. Determined to follow the family legacy on his own terms, Sean’s presence in Boston will provide an opportunity for him and his father to reconnect on a deeper level.
Following the Blue Bloods finale, Terraciano reflected on his time with the show in a social media post, expressing gratitude for the experience. “I am so unbelievably grateful to every single person that has changed me, and helped me, and grown with me,” he wrote. “Sean Reagan, I let you go.”
The confirmed cast for Boston Blue also includes Sonequa Martin-Green as Lena Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters.
As for other potential appearances from the original Blue Bloods cast, Wahlberg has hinted at the possibility of his on-screen father, Tom Selleck, making a guest appearance. Citing the proximity of the two cities, Wahlberg told Parade, “New York and Boston are really close.” He added, “It’s also important to remember where he comes from and what the Blue Bloods legacy is.”
