Carnival Cruise Line has announced significant updates for its New Orleans operations, including the launch of a new private destination in the Bahamas and an expanded deployment plan for 2027-2028.
The company’s first exclusive resort, Celebration Key, will soon welcome guests sailing from the Port of New Orleans. The Carnival Liberty is scheduled to depart Sunday on its inaugural voyage to the destination, with a preliminary stop in Key West, Florida. Located on 65 acres on the south side of Grand Bahama, Celebration Key is organized into five distinct “portals,” each offering a unique experience. Attractions include white sand beaches, family activities, a Bahamian artisan market, various restaurants, an adults-only club, and the world’s largest swim-up bar.
Looking ahead, Carnival will continue to homeport two ships in New Orleans as part of its newly released 2027-28 schedule. The larger Carnival Dream will return to the city in May 2027 for the first time since 2019, following a deployment in Galveston, Texas. With a capacity of 4,600 guests, the Carnival Dream will offer four- and five-day voyages to Mexico. The ship is equipped with numerous staterooms, restaurants, a comedy club, and live entertainment.
“More capacity with a larger ship means more tourism activity for Port NOLA and the region, where we’ve enjoyed a successful partnership for over three decades,” Carnival President Christine Duffy said in a prepared statement.
The Carnival Liberty will also extend its sailing schedule from New Orleans through April 2028, offering seven-day itineraries to the Western Caribbean and the Bahamas. These voyages will feature stops at Celebration Key, Key West, and Nassau, with other destinations including Cozumel, Belize, Grand Cayman, and Isla Tropicale.
