The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) has permanently banned a video review official for a procedural error during a game between SKA and Avtomobilist.
The incident occurred in the 46th minute after a shot by defenseman Andrei Pedan was reviewed to determine if it had crossed the goal line. According to league protocol, the official was required to use the standard 60-second pause to conduct the review before confirming the on-ice call.
In a statement, the KHL Refereeing Department apologized to the SKA and Avtomobilist teams, as well as to all fans, for the mistake.
