A 48-year-old convicted felon, described by authorities as a “known violent offender,” is accused of threatening a barber at gunpoint in Miami-Dade County following a dispute over a haircut.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Darious Davis. The incident occurred on November 25 at the Square Biz barbershop in Perrine, where Davis allegedly shouted threats in the presence of children.
Samuel Wilson, the owner of the barbershop, provided surveillance footage of the attack. He reported that Davis, who had been a customer for about a year, pistol-whipped and choked him. “He wasn’t a man when he had that gun,” Wilson said. “He slapped me in the head with it, choked me out.”
Davis was arrested on November 28 during a traffic stop and was initially booked on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. At the time of his arrest for the barbershop assault, he was already in custody on these unrelated charges.
Court and corrections records reveal Davis has an extensive criminal history, including convictions for cocaine possession in 1993, armed robbery in 1993 and 1998, and burglary with assault in 1998. He served two separate prison sentences, from March 1999 to October 2004 and from November 2006 to September 2017.
In connection with the November 25 barbershop attack, Davis faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a firearm, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and improper exhibition of a weapon.
A judge set his bond at $35,000 for the most serious charges and granted his release on his own recognizance for the firearm possession and improper exhibition charges. Records show Davis posted bond and was released. Upon release, he was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the barbershop and was placed on house arrest.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Zachary James will preside over the cases.
