The Los Angeles Dodgers have unveiled the design for their highly anticipated Kobe Bryant bobblehead giveaway.
The collectible depicts the late Los Angeles Lakers legend in a batting stance, wearing a gold No. 24 Lakers jersey. The design appears to be inspired by a 2009 photograph of the five-time NBA champion. The figurine also features the Zoom Kobe 6 Protro “Dodgers” sneakers, which were released in May.
The bobblehead will be distributed to the first 40,000 ticketed fans at the Dodgers’ home game against the Toronto Blue Jays on August 8. The date, 8/8, honors the jersey number Bryant wore during the first half of his 20-year NBA career.
This promotion continues a tradition for the Dodgers of honoring Bryant. In 2023, the team gave away a special snakeskin-patterned Dodgers jersey during its Lakers Night, a reference to Bryant’s “Black Mamba” nickname. That jersey featured his No. 8 on the front and No. 24 on the back.
Bryant had a strong connection to the Dodgers, frequently attending games at Dodger Stadium. He threw out the ceremonial first pitch in 2000 and was in attendance to support the team during Game 4 of the 2018 World Series.
Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others died in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
