Dolly Parton has addressed growing concerns about her health, reassuring fans she is “not dying” following a public prayer request from her sister that ignited worry across her fanbase.
In a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, captioned “I ain’t dead yet!”, the 79-year-old music icon appeared vibrant while speaking from a film set. “I know lately everybody thinks that I am sicker than I am,” Parton said. “Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here!”
Parton explained that she is undergoing “a few treatments” for some health issues but insisted they are “nothing major.” She attributed the problems to neglecting her own well-being after the death of her husband, Carl Dean, earlier this year. “I didn’t take care of myself,” she admitted. “When I got around to it, the doctor said, ‘We need to take care of this, we need to take care of that.'”
The star’s video message came one day after her sister, Freida Parton, posted on Facebook asking “prayer warriors” to pray for Dolly. “Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately,” Freida wrote. “I truly believe in the power of prayer.”
The health issues have required Parton to cancel some commitments to remain closer to home in Nashville. In late September, she announced the postponement of her Las Vegas concerts, stating that her doctors advised her to have “a few procedures.” She told fans at the time, “I want to be at my best for you,” adding that she needed “a little time to get show ready.”
Despite the treatments, Parton concluded her recent video on a determined note. “I wanted you to know that I’m not dying! I’m not ready to die yet,” she declared. “I don’t think God is through with me, and I ain’t done working.”
