Miami Dolphins cornerback Artie Burns is expected to miss the entire 2025 season after tearing his ACL during the first day of the team’s training camp.
An MRI on Thursday confirmed the torn ACL, which Burns sustained during practice on Wednesday. He went down after getting tangled with a teammate during position drills and was later seen leaving the field on crutches.
The injury is a significant setback for both Burns and the Dolphins. Signed to a one-year contract this offseason after three years with the Seattle Seahawks, Burns was projected to compete for a starting job. His absence now magnifies a significant need for Miami at a position where the team already lacked depth.
Speaking on Wednesday, Head Coach Mike McDaniel stated his confidence in the team’s current cornerbacks but affirmed the front office is always evaluating potential additions to the roster.
In response to the injury, the Dolphins signed veteran cornerback Cornell Armstrong on Thursday. A former sixth-round pick by the team in 2018, Armstrong was not on an active NFL roster last season after spending the 2023 season on the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad.
