On Thursday’s “Third Hour of TODAY,” the hosts engaged in a candid discussion about their relationships with their neighbors, prompted by a question from Al Roker. The conversation took a revealing turn when Dylan Dreyer confessed to actively avoiding interactions in her Manhattan apartment building.
“Sometimes I’ll open the door and hear somebody else open their door, and I’ll shut my door and wait till I hear the elevator ding,” she admitted.
When a surprised Craig Melvin asked if she really wanted to avoid people, Dreyer clarified her stance. “Not that I want to avoid them,” she explained, “it’s meaningless chit-chat that neither one of us wants to have.”
Melvin then humorously admitted he also keeps to himself, joking, “What if the neighbors watch the show?” before conceding, “I don’t stop and talk to anybody.” Dreyer quipped that the size of his property might be a factor, noting, “Craig’s neighbors live so far away.”
Dreyer’s comments on city living coincide with her efforts to sell the New York City apartment she shared with her ex-husband, Brian Fichera. After initially listing the home for $2.5 million in January and temporarily taking it off the market, the property was recently relisted with a $500,000 price reduction, bringing the asking price to $1.99 million.
The couple, who purchased the two-bedroom, two-bathroom residence for $2.35 million in 2016, may face a significant loss on the sale. The 1,491-square-foot unit, constructed in 2008, features floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Battery Park.
In stark contrast to her Manhattan experience, Dreyer enjoys a close-knit community at her beach house, where she counts her former “TODAY” co-star Hoda Kotb as a neighbor. Kotb recently described their idyllic relationship in her wellness newsletter.
“Because Dylan Dreyer is our neighbor, her three boys often run into my house and play with my daughters all day long,” Kotb wrote. “The biggest question we face is: ‘What are we throwing on the grill tonight?'”
