WASHINGTON – A statement from the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has expressed support for the potential resignation of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
The unattributed remarks, released without a specific author, encouraged the move based on unspecified reports. “I’m encouraged by reports that Jerome Powell is considering resigning,” the statement read. “I think this will be the right decision for America, and the economy will boom.”
The FHFA is the regulatory agency for government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the 11 Federal Home Loan Banks. These entities provide more than $8.5 trillion in funding for the U.S. mortgage markets and financial institutions.
