The Indiana Fever’s injury woes have significantly worsened, with the team confirming Friday that guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald will both miss the remainder of the 2025 season.
The two players sustained their injuries during Thursday’s 95-60 loss to the Phoenix Mercury. Colson suffered a torn left ACL in the first quarter, while McDonald fractured a bone in her right foot in the final period.
These season-ending injuries compound the challenges for a team already navigating the prolonged absence of star rookie Caitlin Clark, who has been sidelined since July 15 with quad and groin injuries. Clark has appeared in only 13 games this season, and no timetable has been set for her return.
The losses leave the Fever severely shorthanded, with only nine available players and no true point guards for their Saturday game against the Chicago Sky. League rules prevent the team from adding a hardship player until after the contest.
Colson, a two-time WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces, joined the Fever as a free agent and provided a veteran presence in the backcourt, averaging 2.4 points and 2.0 assists per game. McDonald had taken on a larger role in Clark’s absence, starting 13 of 20 games and averaging 9.8 points, 4.7 assists, and 1.3 steals.
Now at 17-14 and fifth in the WNBA standings, the Fever saw a five-game winning streak end with back-to-back losses to Los Angeles and Phoenix. The defeat to the Mercury was the team’s most lopsided of the season.
