FX has released the first trailer for “Necaxa,” a new docuseries executive produced by Eva Longoria and serving as a spinoff to the acclaimed “Welcome to Wrexham” from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The bilingual series shifts focus from Wales to Mexico, following the Liga MX team Club Necaxa. “Football in Mexico is a language,” Longoria states in the trailer. “It’s the national language.”
Produced by FX and Disney+ Latin America, “Necaxa” is described as a “gripping bilingual docuseries chronicling a turbulent, transformational time marked by staff shake-ups, career-defining injuries and the relentless grit of a football team determined to defy expectations and deliver hope to its city of Aguascalientes, Mexico.”
The official synopsis adds, “Once a powerhouse in Mexican football, Club Necaxa has spent decades navigating instability including relocations and near-constant reinvention. Though its legacy has flickered in and out of the national spotlight, a passionate core of diehard supporters continues to believe, clinging to the dream that their beloved ‘Rayos’ will one day rise again.”
Alongside Longoria, Reynolds, and McElhenney, the series is executive produced by Cris Abrego, Rachelle Mendez, Nicholas Frenkel, Jackie Cohn, George Dewey, Alex Fumero, and Diana E. Gonzales. Production companies include Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group, McElhenney’s More Better Productions, Reynolds’ Maximum Effort, and 3 Arts Entertainment.
“Necaxa” is set to premiere on August 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FXX. Episodes will be available for streaming the following day on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ internationally. The series will release two episodes per week for the first three weeks, followed by a weekly release for the remaining four episodes, with the season finale scheduled for September 18.
