Former NFL player Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to South Florida to face charges connected to a shooting in Miami that occurred nearly six months ago.
Authorities confirmed the 37-year-old was taken into custody at Newark Airport in New Jersey following his extradition. His current location has not been disclosed.
The charges stem from an incident on May 17, when police responded to a gunshot detection alert around 3 a.m. near 221 NE 67th Street. The altercation took place during a boxing event hosted by streamer Adin Ross. Although officers questioned several people at the scene, no injuries were reported and no arrests were made at the time.
Video later posted to social media shows Brown involved in a fight with several people. In the footage, he appears to be holding a black pistol while chasing someone, and gunshots are heard off-camera moments later. An arrest warrant alleges that Brown grabbed the gun from a security guard who had intervened. The warrant identifies the target of the chase as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu.
Police did not arrest Brown on the night of the incident because they could not locate a victim. After a warrant was issued for his arrest in June, Brown’s attorney secured a $10,000 bond that included house arrest, but Brown, who was believed to be overseas, did not return to Florida.
Shortly after the initial altercation, Brown claimed on social media that he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.” He wrote, “Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”
