During a Fox News segment, host Rachel Campos-Duffy argued that the political left is misrepresenting the immigration debate by attempting to “pit Donald Trump against… empathetic families” facing deportation. She contended that, contrary to this narrative, former President Trump, along with figures like Governor Kristi Noem and federal agencies such as ICE and Border Patrol, are the foremost protectors of Hispanic children.
Campos-Duffy claimed that “well over 90%” of children trafficked for sexual or labor exploitation are Hispanic, describing U.S. law enforcement and Republican leaders as “the greatest defenders of Hispanic children who are being exploited.” She added that these officials are not receiving the credit they deserve and suggested that leaders of Latin American countries, including Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, should be thanking Trump for his efforts.
Campos-Duffy then broadened her argument to address the fundamental nature of American identity, challenging the common phrase “a nation of immigrants.” She posed the question of whether the U.S. is instead “a nation of settlers,” arguing for the latter. She described settlers as those who “forged and created a new identity” and a unique American culture. According to Campos-Duffy, this “settler” nation historically allowed immigrants to assimilate, a process she believes has since “fallen apart.”
She attributed this breakdown to the political left, asserting that “fundamentally the left hates America.” Campos-Duffy elaborated, stating they “hate our founding story, they hate our founding fathers, they hate everything about our founding documents.” In her view, undocumented immigrants are “weaponized” by the left as a means to “remake America in a different image,” which she characterized as a “Marxist, dystopian… utopia.”
She concluded by claiming that for the left, immigration is merely a “paperwork problem” to be solved with legalization and benefits, with no genuine interest in assimilation. She asserted that the left shows more “disdain” for Americans who wish to preserve the nation’s culture and secure its borders than for those who entered the country unlawfully for economic reasons.
