Brentford manager Thomas Frank has backed his former player, Bryan Mbeumo, to be a “fantastic success” at Manchester United.
Frank signed the Cameroon international for Brentford from Troyes in 2019 for £5.8 million, and Mbeumo went on to make 242 appearances for the club. He joined Manchester United this summer in a deal that could rise to £71 million and has made an immediate impact, winning the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for October after recording three goals and one assist.
Ahead of Manchester United’s match against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Frank reflected on his six-year working relationship with the forward.
“To see him develop from being a young man, 19 years old when he moved to London and Brentford, and leaving six years later for one of the biggest clubs in the world… the way he stepped up has been impressive,” Frank said.
“Looking from the outside, I think he’s been their best offensive player. He can create, he can score, he works hard, and he’s a team player. He’s the perfect example of a player with a confident but humble attitude.”
Frank added: “He’s a top player. I think he will have fantastic success there. I hope that for him—not tomorrow, but in general, I wish him all the best.”
For their match against United, Tottenham winger Mohammed Kudus is considered “touch and go” after picking up a knock against Chelsea and missing the midweek Champions League game. Lucas Bergvall will also miss the fixture as he continues to follow the league’s concussion protocols.
