Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a billionaire, won $1.4 million playing blackjack in Las Vegas last year, according to his latest tax filing.
A spokesperson for the governor confirmed on Thursday that the earnings came from a vacation Pritzker took with his wife and friends. His campaign announced that the full amount will be donated to charity.
“I went on vacation with my wife, with some friends. I was incredibly lucky,” Pritzker told reporters at a press conference. “You have to be to end up ahead, frankly, going to a casino anywhere… and I like to play cards.”
The governor is a known card enthusiast who also plays poker and founded a charity poker tournament.
For the 2023 tax year, Pritzker and his wife, MK, reported a total income of $10.6 million. The disclosure of the gambling winnings offers a glimpse into the finances of the governor, who is currently in his second term and is often cited as a potential contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination.
