KINGSTON, Jamaica — Cameron Green produced a defiant unbeaten 42 as Australia struggled to 99-6 at stumps on a dramatic, bowler-dominated second day of the third Test against the West Indies. His innings helped establish an overall lead of 181 after the tourists’ top order collapsed under lights at Sabina Park.
A total of 15 wickets fell on Sunday, with pacemen from both sides exploiting the conditions. Facing a hostile spell from Alzarri Joseph (3-19) and Shamar Joseph (2-26) with the swinging pink ball, Australia’s second innings began disastrously.
Sam Konstas was dismissed for a five-ball duck by Shamar Joseph, continuing his poor series. Usman Khawaja (14) and Steve Smith (5) were also bowled as Australia faltered. The slide intensified when Alzarri Joseph claimed two wickets in the 21st over, removing Beau Webster (13) and Alex Carey, who was caught two balls after being struck on the helmet. Green and captain Pat Cummins (5 not out) survived to see out the day.
“We wanted seven wickets. We got six wickets. So I’m actually pleased with that performance,” said Shamar Joseph. “I actually think anything under 200, we definitely could chase that.”
Earlier, Australia’s own pace attack had seized control, bowling the West Indies out for 143 to secure a crucial 82-run first-innings lead. Scott Boland led the charge with 3-34, while Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins took two wickets apiece.
Resuming at 16-1, the West Indies struggled to score freely against disciplined Australian bowling. John Campbell (36) and Shai Hope (21) provided the only significant resistance before the innings unraveled. After reaching 124-5, the hosts lost their last five wickets for just 19 runs.
Australia has already secured the Frank Worrell Trophy after winning the first two Tests in Barbados and Grenada.
