The first day of concerts at the Harley-Davidson Homecoming festival was abruptly canceled Friday, July 11, after a tornado watch and severe thunderstorms prompted an evacuation of Veterans Park in Milwaukee.
Organizers announced the cancellation at approximately 7 p.m., about three hours after the day’s events began. The decision came before headliner Hank Williams Jr. and other major acts, including Charles Wesley Godwin and Treaty Oak Revival, could take the stage. Four of the nine scheduled bands, including country rock group Ole 60, had performed before the shutdown.
In a statement posted on social media, Harley-Davidson confirmed the cancellation was necessary for safety. “Unfortunately, due to severe weather in the area, we had to end the show earlier than we hoped,” the company stated. “Safety is our top concern, and this was the best course of action for our fans, artists and crew.”
The company immediately announced that full refunds would be issued for all July 11 single-day passes purchased through the official seller, Front Gate Tickets. Patrons with two-day passes will receive a 50% refund. All refunds will be processed automatically within 30 days.
The Veterans Park concerts are the main event of the festival. Despite the cancellation, two-day and Saturday-only passes had sold out by noon on Friday.
As of Friday evening, the festival’s second day of concerts on July 12 is scheduled to proceed. The lineup features nine acts, including headliner Chris Stapleton, Turnpike Troubadours, Sierra Ferrell, and actor Jason Momoa’s rock band, Oof Tatata. The forecast for Saturday calls for a high of 84 degrees with a chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm.
