Actor Richard Dreyfuss has withdrawn from a scheduled appearance at the SharkCon fan event in Tampa, Florida, after being diagnosed with a severe case of bronchitis.
The 77-year-old “Jaws” star announced the cancellation Friday in a video message posted on SharkCon’s official Instagram account. Addressing his fans, Dreyfuss explained that his doctors have advised him against air travel.
“I’ve been told by my doctors I cannot fly,” Dreyfuss said, noting the flight would be five hours long. “I’m terribly sorry because I had planned to be there, and I had been looking forward to it.”
He added that he was canceling to prioritize his health and avoid potentially spreading the viral illness to attendees. With his wife, Svetlana Erokhin, by his side, Dreyfuss expressed his deep regret and promised to make it to a future event. “There will be other times and I will make it my business to show up,” he assured fans.
Following the announcement, SharkCon confirmed that all prepaid autographs and photo opportunities with the actor would be refunded automatically. The organization stated that refunds would be processed within 5-10 business days.
