The highly anticipated Penn State vs. Ohio State matchup will proceed without one of its central figures, as Nittany Lions quarterback Drew Allar is sidelined with a season-ending injury.
The absence of Allar, a Medina, Ohio native and former “Ohio Mr. Football,” removes a significant storyline from the rivalry. His decision to play for Penn State after being a top prospect in the Buckeyes’ home state had previously added extra intrigue to this annual contest.
Allar’s season came to an abrupt end during a mid-October game against Northwestern. While scrambling on a third-down play, he was tackled by two defenders and suffered a broken left ankle. He was subsequently carted off the field, and team officials later confirmed he would be out for the remainder of the year.
Following the injury, reports confirmed that Allar underwent successful surgery and is on track for a full recovery. As he rehabilitates, he will begin preparations for the NFL Draft.
In his absence, backup quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer has taken over as the starter for Penn State.
