Kate McKinnon has been cast in a recurring guest role for the third season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” The Emmy-winning actress will portray Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty.
According to the official character description, Aphrodite can alter her appearance to suit the beholder and will test Percy Jackson’s (Walker Scobell) respect for the power of love before offering her aid on his quest.
A veteran of “Saturday Night Live” from 2012 to 2022, McKinnon earned two Emmy Awards and ten nominations during her tenure. Her recent credits include playing Weird Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Carole Baskin in the Peacock limited series “Joe vs. Carole.” Her filmography also includes “Bombshell,” “Yesterday,” “The Spy Who Dumped Me,” and the 2016 “Ghostbusters” reboot. McKinnon will next appear in the Hulu sci-fi film “In the Blink of an Eye.”
Based on the bestselling book series by Rick Riordan, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” was co-created for television by Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, who serves as showrunner alongside Dan Shotz. The series also stars Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri.
The show premiered on Disney+ in December 2023. Season 3, which will adapt the book “The Titan’s Curse,” is currently in production in Vancouver.
