Kyle MacLachlan and Justin Long are set to star alongside Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy in You Deserve Each Other, an Amazon MGM romantic comedy based on the novel by Sarah Hogle. The film, which has a budget in the mid-$20 million range, is currently in production in New York.
Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, the screenwriting duo behind romantic comedy hits like Never Been Kissed and He’s Just Not That Into You, will direct the feature. The supporting cast also includes Ana Gasteyer, Timothy Busfield, Delaney Rowe, Lisa Gilroy, and Alyssa Limperis. Production company Fifth Season is co-producing the film.
You Deserve Each Other is described as a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers story centered on Naomi and Nick, a couple on the verge of marriage who have fallen out of love. With the wedding day looming, they both secretly attempt to provoke the other into calling it off through a series of pranks, sabotage, and emotional warfare, only to fall for each other again in the process.
Long will portray the best friend of Badgley’s character, Nick, with MacLachlan cast as Nick’s father.
MacLachlan is widely recognized for his work in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks and was recently seen in Amazon’s hit series Fallout. Long, whose diverse credits include Galaxy Quest, Jeepers Creepers, and the cult horror film Barbarian, also appeared in the first season of Disney+’s Goosebumps.
