Australian batsman Steven Smith has confirmed he will continue using his distinctive anti-glare tape for the day-night Test match during the 2025-26 Ashes series.
Smith first utilized the tape under his eyes during the recent pink-ball Test against the West Indies and believes it provides a significant advantage in seeing the ball under floodlights. He stated that the accessory made a “reasonable difference” by reducing glare from the stadium lights.
“I’ll be wearing them,” Smith said, committing to the practice for the future. “I felt like it helped me. Sometimes the glare from the lights can be a bit much, and I felt like I was picking the ball up a little bit better.”
The decision highlights Smith’s meticulous approach to his game and his willingness to adopt unconventional methods to optimize his performance ahead of the highly anticipated series against England.
