German football legend Lothar Matthäus has challenged Harry Kane’s recent assessment of Bayern Munich’s squad depth, arguing that the striker’s comments were an exaggeration.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Matthäus countered Kane’s claim that this is one of the smallest squads he has ever been part of. He identified new signings Luis Díaz and Jonathan Tah as significant reinforcements and praised the acquisition of central midfielder Tom Bischof. Matthäus also emphasized that the team will soon be bolstered by the return of key players from injury, including Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Itō.
The former Bayern captain also highlighted the club’s emerging youth talent, naming Lennart Karl, Paul Wanner, Jonah Kusi-Asare, and Wisdom Mike as players who have proven in pre-season friendlies that they can compete at a high level.
Matthäus asserted that these young players deserve an opportunity and concluded that the squad is sufficiently large, even without the rumored signing of Christopher Nkunku.
