As part of NBC’s return as a broadcast partner for the NBA, the network has announced a new interview series, “MJ: Insights to Excellence,” featuring Hall of Famer Michael Jordan. The season-long series will pair Jordan with longtime NBC journalist Mike Tirico.
A portion of the first installment is scheduled to air during halftime of the Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game on Tuesday. The series marks a significant part of NBC’s renewed NBA coverage, which includes Opening Night games, All-Star Weekend, and playoff contests.
The collaboration is a natural fit, as Jordan was the face of the league during the 1990s when his Chicago Bulls dynasty was prominently featured on NBC.
While Jordan has seldom taken on on-air roles, the content of the new series remains undisclosed. It is unclear whether it will feature detailed analysis of the modern game, similar to Kobe Bryant’s “Detail” on ESPN, or focus on reflections from his own legendary career.
Regardless of the format, securing a recurring interview series with Jordan is a notable accomplishment. Even if it primarily covers his playing days, the series is poised to capture the attention of fans throughout the season.
