Alex Michelsen expressed relief after snapping a recent singles losing streak, stating, “I’m super happy to end that little streak I was on.” He credited the high-altitude conditions for enhancing his performance, noting that his shots were “penetrating a little more.”
His strategy to press forward and finish points at the net was a key feature of the match. “Especially in the altitude, the balls are flying a little more,” he explained. “That’s one of the key components of my game and I can be on my front foot looking to come forward.”
While acknowledging Beibit Zhukayev’s “massive serve,” Michelsen also suspected his opponent may have been dealing with an injury, having noticed tape on his back. Ultimately, the American was most pleased with his own form. “I played super well at the baseline for the first time in a long time,” he said. “A lot of positives going forward.”
The victory leveled his career indoor record at 10-10, a statistic Michelsen believes he can improve upon. “I’ve definitely underachieved indoors,” he admitted, despite adding that he “absolutely loves” playing on the surface.
