After starting just seven Premier League matches last season, Jack Grealish appears rejuvenated at Everton, having been in the starting line-up for two of his new team’s first three games.
His impact was evident during a return to the West Midlands against Wolves. In an action-packed display, Grealish provided two assists and was denied a goal by goalkeeper Jose Sa. The former Aston Villa captain’s influence was significant, recording 60 touches, 35 passes with a 91.4% accuracy rate, and winning seven free-kicks for his side.
“He is even better than I thought,” said Everton boss David Moyes. “He is making a big difference, whether it is his assists, his presence, lots of things. He is playing the minutes he may not have had in recent years.”
Moyes believes Grealish thrives on consistent involvement and brings a unique quality to the team. “He probably needs a bit of love and attention. He needs the games as well,” the manager explained. “What Jack gives us is something just on the edge, which, hopefully… is creativeness and maybe scoring goals. Hopefully he starts building on it and he gets even better as the season goes on.”
However, Moyes credited the player’s resurgence to his own determination. “It’s nothing to do with me, let me tell you – it’s all to do with Jack and his own mentality to be better,” he said. “There’s a wee bit to prove, I’m sure. I think Jack wants to show that he’s a good player. I think he’s showing it at the moment.”
