The Washington Nationals, fresh off a two-game winning streak against the San Francisco Giants, begin a new series in Kansas City against the Royals.
Right-hander Cade Cavalli will take the mound for his second major league start of the season. In his return last week, Cavalli pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings on 88 pitches. He will look to build on that performance with a focus on pitch efficiency and arm health.
Notably absent from the active roster is Dylan Crews. Despite playing nine innings in consecutive games for Triple-A Rochester, the outfielder has not yet been activated from the 60-day injured list. The team is expected to wait until its homestand begins Thursday to make the move.
The Nationals’ lineup features the return of second baseman Luis García Jr., who missed the weekend series with back tightness. He will bat eighth against Royals left-hander Bailey Falter. Paul DeJong, who has been performing well at the plate, will bat third and play third base in place of Brady House.
