Play by Play Studios, a developer comprised of former EA Sports veterans, has unveiled NBA THE RUN, a 3v3 street basketball game set for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Having secured official licenses from both the NBA and the NBPA, the game will feature a mix of current superstars and fictional athletes. The initial roster reveal includes Giannis Antetokounmpo, LaMelo Ball, Stephen Curry, Luka Dončić, Anthony Edwards, and top prospect Cooper Flagg.
Designed to stand apart from simulation titles, THE RUN will feature a distinct arcade-style aesthetic and fast-paced, trick-focused gameplay. Legendary streetball announcer Bobbito Garcia will provide commentary over the action on handcrafted courts, including iconic locations like Venice Beach and The Tenement.
Players can compete solo or cooperatively in modes such as Knockout Tournaments. For a seamless multiplayer experience, the game will implement rollback netcode—a technique popular in fighting games for minimizing latency—and will support full cross-play between all platforms.
